Long Calls for the U.S. Senate to Rescue the Postal Service
‘If it was critical enough to have members of the House fly back to vote on Saturday, then the Senate should follow suit immediately’
VANCOUVER, WA — Carolyn Long, candidate for Congress in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District issued the following statement after the House of Representatives approved a bill to halt changes and provide funding to the United States Postal Service:
“Communities across Southwest Washington, from Packwood to Toutle, and Long Beach to Bingen, depend on USPS for everything from groceries to lifesaving prescriptions. It is the one shipping service that will deliver to places others won’t. Last weekend, the House of Representatives passed the Delivering for America Act, to provide $25 billion to USPS to ensure our mail workers have adequate funding and roll back the crippling operational changes implemented under this administration.
“There isn’t any time to waste. Let’s face it – if it was critical enough to have members of the House fly back to vote on a Saturday, then the Senate should follow suit immediately. Our small businesses, communities and elections are at stake,” said Long.
