ICYMI: Cook Political Report’s Race Rating Shifted WA-03 Towards Carolyn Long
In a testament to the competitiveness of this campaign, the Cook Political Report shifted its WA-03 race rating away from Rep. Herrera Beutler into the “Lean Republican” category
Vancouver, WA — Last week, the non-partisan Cook Political Report shifted its rating of the race for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District from “Likely Republican” to “Lean Republican.” This ratings change is a demonstration of the strength of Carolyn’s campaign and a testament to the fact that Rep. Herrera Beutler is in the most competitive reelection fight of her political career.
As Cook notes, in the last campaign, it helped that Rep. Herrera Beutler broke against her party’s 2017 healthcare bill. This cycle, however, the Congresswoman has doubled down on her most drastic health care positions. In voting against a bill to protect those with pre-existing conditions, voting against a bill that would lower health coverage costs, negotiate lower prescription drug prices, and expand coverage for those who need it most, and supporting a lawsuit to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act — which would cut health care from more than 654,000 Washingtonians and end protections for folks with preexisting conditions — Rep. Herrera Beutler has made it clear where she stands on the most important issue we face. This stands in stark contrast to Carolyn Long, who is committed to protecting and expanding healthcare, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, and fighting to protect those with preexisting conditions.
“The campaign to represent Southwest Washington in Congress is more competitive than ever, because the stakes have never been higher,” said Abby Olmstead, Campaign Manager for Carolyn Long. “In 2020, we face the choice between reelecting a career politician who has spent a decade in DC working to cut healthcare, and Carolyn — who will be a hard working, present, accountable, Representative that always puts the people of Southwest Washington first.”
