Long Denounces Trump’s White Nationalist Comments
VANCOUVER, WA — Today Carolyn Long, candidate for Congress in Washington’s 3rd Congressional District, denounced President Trump’s comments to white nationalist groups to “stand down, and stand by.”
“Last night, the president called on white supremacist groups to “stand back, and stand by” rather than take an opportunity handed to him to denounce hatred in these difficult times. This has to stop now. While Trump is responsible for his own words, he has also been enabled for almost four years by elected leaders of his own party who are reluctant to call him out. This is not hard. Our elected officials, regardless of party, should condemn this enabling of hatred towards other Americans. Silence in the face of hate is not the leadership Southwest Washington deserves,” said Long.
Carolyn Long is running for Congress in Southwest Washington (WA-03) for the 2020 election. She previously was the Democratic nominee for Washington’s 3rd District in 2018. She resides in Vancouver with her family and teaches at WSU-Vancouver. Long has served Southwest Washington for more than 25 years, as a WSU college professor and community leader.
