As Election Day Nears, Race Shifts Towards Carolyn Long
Inside Elections joins three other Election Forecasters in moving their rating towards Long
VANCOUVER, WA—As the Carolyn Long campaign’s momentum grows, four separate race raters have now shifted the WA-03 race ratings away from Rep. Herrera Beutler into the “Lean Republican” category. Today, Inside Elections joined three other forecasters in the shift. These ratings demonstrate the strength of Carolyn’s grassroots campaign and the fact that Rep. Herrera Beutler is in the most competitive reelection fight of her 10+ year political career.
“This race is more competitive than ever,” said Abby Olmstead, Campaign Manager for Carolyn Long. “Herrera Beutler is an entrenched D.C. politician who spent a decade trying to eliminate protection to affordable health care that protects preexisting conditions and giving massive tax breaks to her own corporate donors. Southwest Washington is ready for a fresh start—that’s Carolyn Long. Carolyn will be a hard-working, present, accountable and committed representative who always puts the people of Southwest Washington first. National Republicans and big corporations are trying to buy this election, but it won’t work. They’re terrified they’re going to lose.”
Herrera Beutler has taken more than $659,850 this cycle and $1.93 million from corporate special interest groups.
The Cook Political Report, Daily Kos, and The Cycle also shifted their race ratings for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District from “Likely Republican” to “Lean Republican” earlier this month. Last week, the DCCC released a poll showing Long and Herrera Beutler are statistically tied. In September the Long campaign also released a poll released showing the two candidates neck-and-neck. The poll conducted by GQR showed that Long is gaining ground, trailing by just two points.
